2025 Versailles Biennale of Architecture and Landscape

Texas Tech University has been invited to showcase the project "Arid Climatic Vernacular Constructs" at the 2025 Versailles Biennale of Architecture and Landscape, as one of the participating institutions.

The team—comprising AHU Lab, Dr. Asma Mehan, Hi-DARS Lab, and Sina Mostafavi—will represent Texas Tech at this year’s Biennale, curated by Sana Frini and Philippe Rahm Architectes, under the theme "4°Celsius entre toi et moi." The exhibition addresses the projected +4°C temperature rise in France by 2100, and invites global institutions to explore climate-responsive design through architecture, ecology, and adaptation.

The Texas Tech contribution includes work by students and assistants from the Fall 2024 ARCH 4601 and ARCH 5354 studios. Coordinated in part by Dr. Mehan, the project draws inspiration from vernacular typologies—traditional architectural forms that employ local materials and construction methods—to propose resilient and context-sensitive design solutions for arid climates.

The Biennale will run from May 7 to July 13, 2025, at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles.
This selection places Texas Tech within an urgent and visionary global dialogue on climate, architecture, and adaptation.
